Church Appeal: Sample Letter 1

Dear ______,

My name is Jonathan Smith.  I am a member of Faith Evangelical Church in Loveland, Colorado, ordained as a Minister in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church.  My friend, _______________, is a member of your church.  Hopefully, she has already spoken to you about what God is preparing my wife, Robin, and me to do — connecting and releasing 20somethings, in mission together, to plant the gospel among the lost.  I am writing because I want to share with you an opportunity to be involved in this adventure.

I have recently accepted a commission to serve God in Raleigh, to share the story of Christ with 20somethings.  This decision is the result of prayer and a strong sense of God’s calling.  We are enormously excited to be joining The Navigators, an inter-denominational ministry committed to sharing the gospel all over the world and training new generations of Christians to do the same thing.

My wife and I were first introduced to The Navigators three years ago when we met Mark and Trish Johnson.  Mark and Trish displayed a heart for the lost, with a strong belief in prayer and a committed devotional life.  Soon Mark became my personal mentor, and a part of the Leadership Team of the 20something ministry I am currently overseeing.  It was initially their commitment to the four-fold Navigator vision of reaching, discipling, equipping and releasing that encouraged Robin and me. We now share their vision for Navigator ministry as well as their excitement about the future.

As Navigators, we are responsible to raise 100% of our ministry support among those who commit to partner with us.  We are hoping that you will prayerfully consider investing into this ministry and/or helping us to find people you know who may be interested in doing just that. Our ministry goal has been set at $7,971.00 monthly, with an additional $6,000 needed to relocate to Raleigh.  This monthly support covers not only our salary, but ministry funds, health insurance, pension, benefits, and core services of the Navigator headquarters.

I would like to meet with you to explain more about my ministry and will call you soon to see if an appointment is possible.  We are searching for the people and churches that we believe God is raising up to build His Kingdom!  I am thankful for any time and energies you are able to give me.

I look forward to meeting with you to explain my ministry and The Navigators’ funding process in more detail.  Thank you for your time and attention.

Trusting in Christ and working hard,

(NOTE: Remember to include the Navigator logo, your first and last name, address, phone, and e-mail.)
